Funny Business: Mastering Comedy in Marketing with The Harmon Brothers

To roll it out across the world, we have written & produced 30 hilarious comedy commercials, crafted in collaboration with the renowned Comedy Ad Agency, The Harmon Brothers. These commercials are set to unleash a tidal wave of tactfully tickled traffic to our Majik Kids App in the coming weeks & months.

In this episode, I had the pleasure of hosting Ryan Powell, the comedic maestro from the Harmon Brothers, who supported us with our 30 comedy scripts. His insights and anecdotes are not just informative—they're pure gold for those of you who are curious about infusing humour into your marketing strategies.

    Another great way to test the market is to seek out other comedy ads inside the same niche. Watch those videos, see what jokes land and which fall flat. Glean some inspiration and get on with ideating.
  4. Brain Dump Brilliance: Scripting is like searching for treasure. You will come up against a lot of dead ends, but eventually -- if you stick with it, you'll find gold!

    Begin with a massive 'Brain Dump,' problem and your solution. It helps if you have a few fun/funny people to collaborate and bounce ideas around with.
  5. Production Mastery: Once you have a script you adore, it's showtime! Plan meticulously, think about your cast (perhaps someone from your friend circle), and let the comedy evolve during production.

    Our actors were mostly friends, family members and the random guy we met at the library who made for the perfect evil villain... I'm sure there are characters in your life ---
    cast them, film them & feed them!
  6. Embrace Controversy: Fear not the controversy; embrace it intentionally. Understand your brand, and remember, you can't please everyone. A touch of controversy sparks memorable conversations.

    5 or 6 of the comedy ads we did are slightly controversial -- depending on who you ask. But this is a time in human history where we want to have a backbone, stand up for what we believe in and speak our truth humorously and boldly. Controversy can work in your favour and act as a sorting hat between your raving fans and your umm... not raving fans. That's perfectly okay!

In essence, Ryan shared the art of infusing marketing with comedy—a recipe for a brand story that sticks. Dive into your brand's essence, embrace testing, script your gold, let the production magic happen, and witness your brand become an unforgettable masterpiece.
